DANNY ADDS CENTRE HALF
Welcome to Iron Matt Fry!
The Club are pleased to announce the signing of defender Matthew Fry from Concord Rangers for the 2015/16 season. After spending 11 years at West Ham United, Matt gained League experience on loan at Gillingham and Charlton before signing for Bradford. Due to a run of bad luck with injuries, he moved on from professional football and spent the past three seasons playing for Concord Rangers, where he has been a key part of the club's success. Matt is a pacey left sided centre half who reads the game very well. He has turned down numerous, more lucrative offers to sign for Braintree Town.
Manager Danny Cowley was delighted to sign Matt Fry: "Matt has played for me during the past three seasons and has been a key influence in our defensive organisation. He has excellent physical attributes and is also very intelligent tactically. After working with him, it would feel very difficult to set a team up defensively without his presence. Nicky and I feel he will both add and compliment the group of players we already have."
"He has played around 50 League games and would still be playing in the league if it hadn't been for a run of injuries. He was a massive part of our success and when challenged in games such as the two Mansfield FA Cup games, he always found an another level of performance. We believe the challenge of this division will bring out the very best in Matt."
"Since coming to Concord Rangers he has played regularly, game in and game out. We have had to adapt his training programme and find the balance between training hard and intelligently. This programme has allowed him to overcome the injury issues that affected his early career. He feels he has unfinished business in professional football and I believe this could be a step towards that."
Danny also gave the Club site an update on other areas in the squad: "Nicky and I are working very hard to bring in a goalkeeper and two to three more outfield players to compliment the group of players we already have. We have a very clear recruitment strategy that has worked for us in the past. It is important that we show a level of patience because players that may not have been available to us in May and early June all of a sudden become accessible as the season comes closer. We have clarity regarding the type of player that we require and are doing lots of background work to ensure that we sign the best possible person available to us."
