The other idea doing the rounds at the moment is a merger between League Two and the National League to form a League Two North & South. This would have a dramatic effect on reducing travelling costs for all 48 clubs and generate a significant number of new local derbies - ours could well be Southend or Colchester - which would increase home attendances.
The thinking is that the bottom four of League One would be relegated and replaced by the champions and play-off winners of the 2 League Twos.
The play-offs would also be altered to give more advantage to the team finishing second and would involve just two games: 3rd v 4th, with the winners away to 2nd. Thus if you finish 4th, you have to win two away games to be promoted, while finishing second means just one home win for promotion. Seems fair to me.
Beneath that would sit the current National League North and South, with three-up, three down with the League Twos above. The top two would be promoted automatically followed by play-offs of 3rd v winners of 4th v 5th. Beneath that would be four regional leagues: North, Midlands, South East and South West.
There is also a dire need to reformat the grant aid process for clubs coming quickly through the ranks - but that's a story for another day!

The Scots do this and it seems most fair, from Championship to Premiership. Queen of the South vs Rangers. Hibs v Rangers Motherwell (SCP) vs winners of Hibs / Rangers. Surprized we don't do this in England for all leagues.

I think L2 & Conf Prem should be merged into north/south; it makes financial sense for both clubs and fans.

League 2 fans will see such a move as a drop in their status while Conference sides will see it the opposite way.

If that were applied next season League Two South would be something like this:- Bromley Braintree Town Welling United Barnet Bristol Rovers Crawley Town Leyton Orient Wycombe Wanderers Stevenage Plymouth Argyle Torquay United Aldershot Town Dover Forest Green Rovers Woking Luton Town Newport County Exeter City Cambridge United Portsmouth AFC Wimbledon Dag & Red Oxford United Northampton Town Would be guaranteed some big gates with the likes of Pompey, Luton, Cambridge United, Bristol Rovers and of course the not quite so mighty (just for now) O's who would all bring 1500 or so to Cressing Road. League Two next season is a pretty Southerly based Division anyhow but I quite like the regionalisation and the play off idea. I think was floated at a FL AGM a few years back Barry Hearn our chairman at the time was in favour but it was strongly rejected in principle. Sadly I doubt if League Two clubs will want to see their competition watered down which is I believe how they would view it.
