We've got an important exclusive story in today's Braintree and Witham Times that may be of interest to fans. It's about Alan Devonshire's position as Iron boss. It's in the shops today!

So Devs has been looking for a new club and today is the d-day for him. Understandably with falling gates this season the player budget stays the same.
The balls in Devs court, if he doesn't come to the party the hunt for a new manager begins. I think the up and coming manager of a certain Connie South island team knocking on the door of the play offs might be of interest to us if Devs goes.

so is that it regards the ground ? New ground coming .... hardly full of inspiration or detail ! Not that anyone is updating the clubs fans. This club will never ever grow gates and keep fans coming through the door without making people feel an inclusive part of the club but all we ever get is a sound bite here an innuendo there and no update on the ground from the board..... Nothing. I am just beginning to wonder if Dev's is getting the hump with talk of a new ground and little upwards movement of his playing budget, as I said in another thread if he has an ounce of ambition beyond managing a conference team destined to be in the lower echelon's of the Conference at best. and seeing his budget shrink in real terms every season perhaps he owes it to himself to look for a club whose ambitions stretch beyond the councils planning chambers. From the last paragraph in the B&W Times I would imagine that Devs idea of progress is somewhat different to the chairman's, but hey how would we know the club tells us nothing. I hope Dev's stays I guess we'll soon find out.

I can't imagine a league club being interested, he has no experience at a higher level and is at an age when most people are winding down their careers. If he were ambitious he'd have made his move years ago. I would go as far to say he dodged a bullet when it transpired that Col U weren't and never had been interested in recruiting him before Christmas. Safe and steady yes, ambitious and exciting no.

Gareth, on a post on the Braintree FC page that you have commented on two people have said Devo and Keith have left including Devo's son (or that is how I read it). I have heard rumours of Devo going to Aldershot but could be completely wrong. I'm sure either way we will have news tomorrow. If he has gone then I wish him well as he has kept us in the top flight of non-league football for 4 years on a small budget and small crowds. For me there is only one man for the job if the news is true - BQ. He knows and loves the club and has managed us in the past on a temporary basis and now is managing at Enfield, he also knows most of the squad from his playing days here.

Alan Devonshire did everything he was asked to do at the club and wish him well at Maidenhead or wherever he ends up.
Perhaps the young ambitious manager at Concord Rangers is the man for us? He's got them to the edge of the Connie south play offs on what must surely be a considerably smaller budget than ours.

Not all great players necessarily become great Managers, so I'm not convinced about Brad. How did Enfield go this season? I don't doubt he'd be the fans favourite.

Personally I am dissapointed Dev has gone. For keeping the club in this division on a pittance and doing the double over that lot in Bedfordshire I will forever be grateful. I hope wherever he ends up he is a massive success. Cheers Devs.

For keeping the club in this division on a pittance What evidence do you have of that Neil. No doubts the player budget would have been one of the smaller one's in the league but I doubt it was a pittance as you describe it.

Updated on facebook Dev and Rowland have gone
Braintree Town F.C
35 mins · Edited · . BREAKING NEWS... It is with much regret that we announce manager Alan Devonshire and assistant Keith Rowland have left the club, we will have more information tommorow morning.
. Did a great job on little money compared with most in this league, I suspect in the end Dev realised that he could not keep doing it on scant resource. I really hope he gets the gig at Aldershot or at least a full time club.
Good Luck to Alan and Keith.

Predicting chairman statement will be along the lines of amicable parting of the ways but we can only pay what we have and we expect to be inundated with excellent candidates......we'll see.
Brad Quinton would be a popular choice but IMHO a wrong one, it's going to take an experienced manager to keep Braintree in this league again next season.

We got 2 games to go until this season is over and I can see a mass exodus of players before the ball gets kicked at Wrexham......

Either was I was pleased to see Dev at the club. No worries Neil, we're agreed Devs has done a top job, but every time we lose a manager we fear the skies fallen in - remember the panic when both Borgy and Rod Stringer left!. Somehow or ever the Chairman and board have so far come up trumps, so I'm keeping the faith. The small playing budget card has been played too often to excuse our matchday shortcomings. If the team are good enough to match it with the top sides then the budget has to be big enough to win the FA Trophy, like North Ferriby Utd has, I'm quite certain that they're a smaller entity than Braintree are. Brad Quinton would be a popular choice but IMHO a wrong one, it's going to take an experienced manager to keep Braintree in this league again next season. I agree totally, football at this level is less about who will be popular with the fans than it is with getting in the best qualified candidate for the job. We got 2 games to go until this season is over and I can see a mass exodus of players before the ball gets kicked at Wrexham...... Not when they're under contract, Simeon Akinola for one I understand is only part way through a 2 year contract.

I've had a quick look on the Aldershot Fans Forum. They have a thread about Dev's. They clearly don't want him, and are very derogatory about our team. www.shotsweb.co.uk/mb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=38857I'd like to say thank you to Dev's for his time with us. Well done, and good luck in whatever role you end up taking.
