After what was a very promising start to the match in which we dominated the game for the first 25 minutes then turned into a rout where we lost impetuous, invention and confidence. The opening period saw some good chances by Sparkes and Akinola and a spectacular long range looping shot by Massey which bounced back into play from the top of the bar, which Simmeon should have put that away. Shortly after Lincoln went up the other end for their first attack and scored following it up shortly with their second attack and second goal. From there on the Iron look done in, a goal from free kick just before half time by Sparkes gave a some optimism. A brief flurry from the Braintree just after half time was soon snuffed out when the Imps cut through our defence with ease resulting in a third goal. If Nick Haman had not have made several valiant saves including a finger tipped push over the bar it could have been a lot worse. Alan Devonshire recently said he can't wait for the season to come to an end I can understand why what with a plague of injuries we have had this season but that the team still has a job to do, fans to entertain, points to be won and money to be earned. Come on the Iron make us proud and do the business at Nuneaton on Monday

Fair summary rustynail; there was also an early chance for Isaac which he volleyed over. Lincoln surprised me with their passing game, whereas ours often lacked accuracy. They twice exposed Mitch to score their first 2 goals which I assume was the reason for his early substitution. Bencherif was outstanding for them at the back. The third goal really killed us off and they comfortably knocked the ball around in the closing stages. Although a poor result, it was a decent game of football and the Imps continue to be our bogey side.

I think the team as a group have run out of steam, Dev's has worked his magic to keep club in the division again.

Survival is just about all Braintree can ever aim for with their limited budget coupled with the odd cup run to swell the coffers, last season was a massive over achievement but every year the gap between full time and part time gets a little wider. But realistically there is only one way out of this division unless there was a massive cash injection.
The real challenge is keeping hold of Devonshire and the better players who could probably find offers coming their way from bigger full time outfits,

Nothing to play for !
How about the 2000 people who turned up for the Telford game or the fans who pay to watch week in and week out, how about the supporters who travel to some pretty far off places to watch the team and most of all the chairman and board of directors who pay their wages.
Tired maybe small squad yes, but If I were Alan Devonshire and I suspected anyone in my team had the attitude that they had nothing to play for they wouldn't be playing full stop and they certainly wouldn't be getting a new contract.

Quantifying the team or an individual players attitude is never an exact science as no one conscientiously goes into a game thinking they're going to take it easy. With the financial limitations we have a small squad of part time players, mostly of average ability. To win consistently against most teams in the division the players have to play at the upper end of their ability, plus get the match tactics right plus have a good understanding with one another. Some games against quality oppo we see this, yet at other times against unfancied sides the boys look as if they lack motivation to go the extra mile. If as Gareth suggests the motivation isn't there and I believe he's right, thenthe problem is more one of psychology and preparation and that's the job of the management team.

Well said on this one, I will be intimating the same sort of thing in my column this week, if they are poor tomorrow against Nuneaton then that will show us how much the players are taking whats left of the season seriously or not. It might be a no man's land as far as the league is concerned but its not time to coast just yet. Might have been different if the chances were taken with some accuracy and we were a couple of goals up, but the defensive errors came about because Ryan should have started in the right back position. We are capable of good football, maybe the lads should be trying to play basic football as opposed to trying to be too clever. I know they are young and learning their trade, but they should know how to look up and pass.

For those who think there's nothing to play for it is worth pointing out that we have 49 points. Two years ago Stockport were relegated with 50 and last year Chester would have been relegated on 51 had it not been for Salisbury and Hereford dropping out

Noe academic after the win at Nuneaton, we can now "relax" and enjoy the rest of the season in comparative safety.!!!

Not so fast IH. It's also worth noting that even if Stockport had won their last game in 2013, they would still have been relegated on 53 points.
Let's keep the lads on their toes!

Just to be clear - none of the teams in the bottom four can get to our current total of 52. Welling (4th from bottom)have 4 games to play and if they win them all they reach 50 points. We cannot go down. Having said that we all want to see the team finish as high as possible. A couple of big wins at home in particular, would be a good way to finish what has been a disappointing season
