Quite on site about tonight's game so here's a start. Paine should be back from suspension , Bernard hopefully fit again I hope after his good game at Bristol rovers. They need the points to stay in play offs and we need points to be safe. Effiie Sodgie will have them up for the game ( I used to sponcer his team when he was a youngster playing in South London) how times have moved on

14 shots, Only Two on target and no goals, that in a nutshell is the problem.

14 shots, Only Two on target and no goals, that in a nutshell is the problem. Yes no goals in 4 games, only 4 conceded against the better sides in the league tells us where our problem area is. This has been the case since early autumn and here we are six months later and nothings been addressed. I can accept that buying quality strikers is out of reach for us, but finding an ex pro now a bit on the slow side for league football but still has the killer instinct may surely have been possible to find. The idea that you create chances and goals will come is not imo the way to go. To have opposing keepers make what appears to be great saves is not what the fans go to see. Less can be more at times seven chances and two goals would have given us wins and draws in these matches. I know it's pointing out the bleedin' obvious but we have a good squad that under-achieves. I can imagine that Devs and Keith are as frustrated as the rest of us.

Disappointing result for the effort put in. The Silkmen were happy to get men behind the ball and hit us in the break. First half saw us have plenty of possession, with only a couple of long distance shots off target. Akinola three times came close to breaking through only to be denied by last ditch challenges. Sparkes was putting in good crosses, but lack of numbers in the box meant they were dealt with comfortably by a packed defence. Second half continued in much the same vain; but inevitably Macc scored against the run of play with poor defending allowing Macc to have 3/4 efforts at scoring within the box. In response Marks looped a header over and Davis had a 20 yarder well saved by their keeper. Simeon was put through after some good passing but shot against the onrushing keeper who was able to smother the ball. Also good strikes from distance from Sparkes and Paine; but both straight at the keeper, with the former almost knocking the keeper over. Brundle also had a free kick comfortably held. Clerima was probably MOTM carrying the ball forward on a few occasions rather than the usual "lump it and see" method. Peters was poor in an out of position right sided midfield and was withdrawn to be replaced by Maybanks; I can only assume he wasn't fully fit. With no experience on the bench; Devs had to stick with the starting XI throughout much of the match. Any chance the club could bring us up to date on the injuries front?

A very disappointing outcome, considering that we totally dominated the first half and for much of the second. I thought the players' effort and work rate was outstanding, we were winning most of the headers and our passing was accurate. The last four games I believe we could have won if only a couple of the shots at goal had been more accurate.
This is the problem, as braintreeo says. We cannot shoot accurately at goal. In my view the players know this and they hesitate to take a speculative shot as they know they may be well off target, so make one more pass to let themselves off the hook, and we lose possession. I have said before on this forum on several occasions that even in the warm-up period before the match, where they are taking shots at goal from reasonable range, and without anybody trying to hustle them off the ball, they are on target less than half the time.
I bet there must be a soccer school or class somewhere that we could send our key players for some intensive training for a few hours, at what I would guess would be no great cost. I don't know what goes on at training sessions, so this comment is purely speculative, but failing that,I would hang a big sheet of cloth over a goalmouth, roughly marked with the key target areas and set up our own practice session. Maybe offering free drinks at the bar afterwards for those getting the best improvement. I'd be happy to fund that myself, because unless we solve this problem we are going to drift down the table!

Crying out for an experienced striker from a football league back round, Kevin Lisbie is twiddling his thumbs at the O's at the moment he's going to be released at the end of the season, O's would pay his wages and he would get first team football pick up the phone Dev (might need an Italian phrase book or a translator though).
