Ebbsfleet open the scoring after 37 mins. Then IRON receive a further blow when Dan Sparkes left the field with what appeared to be an ear injury and has now sadly has been taken to Darenth hospital, we hope the injury is nothing too serious Dan.
Sean Marks is on, I note the BBC Kent commentator holds Sean in very high regard as our killer striker.
We're dominating the early stages of the second half, but do we have the quality to turn the pressure into goals?
I agree with the commentator - we often "look" dangerous, I fear it'll be Ebbsfleet that gets a second before we get a first.
It was coming, we knew it 2-0 Fleet. I wonder is Charlie Strutton still unavailable?

Shame but after the first game Feet were favourites tonight IMHO, good luck to them. Aim for Braintree now must be to get to 50 points asap and assure conference status.
Same old story, unfortunately we can't compete with a team expensively assembled and teaming with football league experience, money talks and we don't have a millionaire sugar daddy to see us to the next level. Fortunately though we do have a chairman and board of directors that continue to move the club forward in small prudent steps.

Well actually we did match Ebbsfleet all over the pitch, but again our final touch let us down. Ebbsfleet despite the flash the cash approach are not even setting the conference south alight, but they take their chances better. It's in the striker department they've spent on players we don't seem to have money to spend on. What I don't understand why the Holman money wasn't invested in a cunnington or kedwell, or are they strictly on full time contracts?
We play cup games like league games and thats why we're rubbish in cups which require a totally different approach. you are toast in ciups if you can't score goals when you need to. We're beaten by clubs in divisions below us and we f̶a̶i̶l̶ get thrashed by Chesterfield.
I'm not criticising what we're doing only what we do lacks sparks, sorry Dan and hope all is okay with you. cambridge were in our league last year, tonight they were at Old Trafford. Ebbsfleet won the FA Trophy in 2008 and stand a great chance again. But us? we're still hoping to get a game on with a seasons target to get 50 league points. Is it surprising our gates are stagnating?

Orangeboom, I may be wrong and someone in the club can confirm this but I don't think we received a fee for Holman as he was above the age where a club is entitled to compensation if they leave on a free and have been offered terms of re-engagement.

I'm getting similar vibes to you oranjeboom. I expect however that Devs does know what it takes to win cup games, he has an FA Cup winners meddle at home. For me the answer has to be the new stadium with banquet & conference facilities where we also have the ability to earn revenue from non-footballing activities. We couldn't host a saturday wedding at present, but there can be big money to be made on them, the drinks bill alone can stretch well into the thousands. Then of course we won't be bleeding thousands of £££'s through postponed matches if we've invested in a decent pitch, like the one Ebbsfleet have.
Perhaps we just have to be patient for the new ground and tread water much like we're doing and not chuck the baby out with the bathwater or we could find ourselves with a flash new ground but playing at a lower or much lower level.
Agree the way we meekly go out of cups is frustrating - predictable as well. I'm also surprised that we aren't able to find even an aging striker.

I think we always compete well against the better sides, Bristol Rovers this season, Luton/Cambridge last season. Money will always stop any further progress.

Kedwell is rumoured to be on £2500 a week! Nearly half our totally wage budget!

Sad to of whimpered out a competition that I believed we had a chance in. But we looked toothless in all fairness, apart from Chez's 35 yard thunderbolt and Sims 4 yard header that the keeper turned away superbly, we offered nothing else. Best team won for me ! sorry. I take it Kenny was injured as he was our most productive player 1st half. Hope Dan makes a quick recovery from Max Brannings flying elbow.Quietest game from Sim, thought Mitch was poor and we lacked so much creativity. I cant believe we drafted in no new recruits in transfer window compared to last season, just hope we can pick ourselves up and find at least 4 more wins to guarantee our prem status

Kedwell is rumoured to be on £2500 a week! Nearly half our totally wage budget! Nowhere near that figure according to our Chief Exec, Peter Varney, who has said that there are several clubs paying more than us. I have no idea what the truth is, but cannot believe the £2500 figure - if that were the case, then several other ex League players would also be on £2K or so I would have thought and the overall team budget would be reaching ridiculous (biblical!) proportions! Even if the owner has bags of money, I cannot seriously think he would want to spend £1M + on the playing budget each season at CS level.

This is the problem with rumours alanweufc. My mates mate knows a bloke who owns a garage and he reckons kedwells on two and a half grand. We assume he's full time and with players like him and cunnington you should win the conference south at a canter, you've already removed three conference premier sides from the trophy while your league form looks inconsistent.
Good luck for the rest of the season and see you for a league game soon.

NFU are going well in Conference North and knocked Farnborough out in the last round so obviously a team not to be under estimated, would love to see them win it.

How did Ebbsfleet beat us then go and lose to North Ferriby? They stopped Ebbsfleet from scoring which we were unable to do. There are league matches and there are cup ties which require a different perhaps more gung-ho approach. So we don't raise our game to get a cup run going which is a real pity for the clubs finances and for getting people through the gate. You can't beat a giant killing cup run, knocking off a Chesterfield or a Tranmere would have been a start Or the prospect of a Wembley final to getting the town buzzing.
