The visitors took the lead in the early minutes with Iron equalising via a Kenny Davis penalty 5 mins from the break. Match commentary by BBC Essex sports editor Glenn Speller assisted by Simon Spurling can be heard at this link: www.bbc.co.uk/englandcms/livestreams/int11.asxThe commentary team felt there was nothing between the sides, so the tie now goes over the bridge to be settled in Kent. I await the match reports.

I think the commentary team were showing an Essex bias; we are lucky to still be in it after a powerful 2nd half performance by the Fleet. Kedwell and Cunnington gave Massey & Clerima a torrid time throughout and every corner. free kick and long throw had the Iron's rear guard stretched. The first half was more even with Sparkes and Habergham linking up well and putting in some decent crosses. Despite this early success, for some unknown reason we kept going down the right where Chez is not naturally suited to playing in a wide role. An early Kedwell goal from a corner, bundles in at the near post, gave an early warning that this was going to be a tough game. There was also a good save from Nick diving to his right to turn away a powerful effort from 18 yards. Iron were not having many shots and were thankful for a clumsy challenge in the box to hand them a way back into the game. Kenny tucked it away giving the keeper no chance. Instead of coming out inspired by their late first half equaliser, Iron lost the initiative as Ebbsfleet upped the tempo. Iron chances were few and far between with Akinola being doubled up on; although one Peters cross which the keeper and centre back missed also took Cox by surprise and he was unable to get any contact. Cox was replaced by Marks who offered nothing and Sparkes for some unknown reason was replaced by Walker. The latter frustrates as he either smashes his crosses to deep or holds on to the ball too long before giving up on crossing and passing back to Peters. The only good thing is that we get another crack at it next Tuesday.

The fact the players haven't played for over a week was a bad omen, for some strange reason we are better when matches come thick and fast Plus it was a cup game.
We're not out, but the players will have to do better to prevent an exit.

What a strange excuse to make, If they were only playing at 50% they need to take a long hard look at themselves I think outplayed for periods by opponents from a league below would have been more honest. Perhaps if the team are planning any more 50% performances they could let us know in advance. More honest to say we were poor and they played well.

I have to agree that ebbsfleet were the far better side in the second half, and it only seemed a matter of time before they scored the winner. Thankfully they didn't, but it was difficult to watch. Reading that the iron were only at half speed from the captain makes things more harder to swallow. They are steps from a Wembley appearance but can't seem to be fully bothered. This will not stop me going to the replay on Tuesday, in the vain hope that the percentage effort figures can be increased, and players will be bothered to play with their full commitment. Alan Devonshire must be amused at the captains comments, he is a Wembley winner and knows what commitment is all about!
