Waterlogged or frozen?

In my opinion, neither. But I'm not the match referee. Over the past few days the pitch has been frozen and rarely thawed much as the temperature struggled to get above zero. With the pitch still frozen, we had a lot of rain on it last night and the new drainage struggled to cope until it thawed this morning. We started work on it early and had dressed the Quag End goal mouth but, at 12.30, the referee asked for more work on it. He re-inspected it at 1.30 and advised that there was another small area he was concerned with. Both managers were happy to play, but the match referee postponed the game.

This will have a bad effect on the gate - I was with a group of 6 having lunch in "The Orange Tree" prior to walking over the road when we heard that the game was off - only 2 of us might make Tuesday evening! Also, you're not going to get so many away supporters on Tuesday. They were still arriving at about 2.30 for the match & this will put some off of travelling midweek. Why don't refs consider supporters - if both managers were happy to play then it should have gone ahead!

Why don't refs consider supporters - if both managers were happy to play then it should have gone ahead! I asked the referee to make a final decision at 1pm - explaining that there were four coaches of visiting supporters about to depart. His reaction was that supporters were not his concern. He said that he had allowed a game to start at Dover recently when it was in doubt but regretted it and was subsequently criticised for it. No matter - the four match officials charged us £320 for their trouble and then went home. Bring on Tuesday

Seems to me that the ref bottled it when both managers were happy for the game to go ahead.
Perhaps the club could put in a claim to the FA to recover the expenses.

£320 expenses for 1 carload of officials to travel.... That must've been a gas guzzling BMW that 3 of them travelled together in!!

The pitch and lost revenue is as far as I'm concerned the biggest reason we need a new ground. We've heard about the great playing surface its going to have. Any news from the council or is the club dragging it's feet?
