So todays fare at Cressing Road is the visit of the full time and expensive FGR. They've won their last two league games with aplomb 4-0 both times andsit just outside the play off spots. We also go into the match brimming with confidence on the back of our good recent form, so I think we can expect a good game.

Should be a good game. Money no problem for Forest Green Rovers. Dale Vince Owner of their club run's his club on a eco base's. No meat sold at ground and seaweed on the pitch etc. Interesting to see what forward line we put out today as all should be fit. See you all there.

Bob was very confident that there'd be no problem - he was planning to put the frost sheets down in the goal mouths - if there is a problem - I'll let you all know later

They forecast some sleety showers this morning that should melt any frost still on the pitch.

Some sleety rain earlier, but game on.
Pink FA Cup balls on standby - just in case!

A decent game of football between two evenly matched sides. With Cox starting up front, the Iron played a more controlled passing game. Braintree had the better of the opening skirmishes with Chez being prevalent down the right. Three times he got clear and crossed, perhaps he should've had a go himself on at least one occasion. The ball was sticking in the muddy area being defended by FGR and a few slips and slides occurred as they struggled to clear their lines. When they did, the left winger (Frear) was a constant thorn in the Iron's side. Early pressure provided a few corners well delivered by Isaac, but were eventually scrambled clear. FGR came more into the game as the first half wore on and Nick did well to tip a long range drive onto the bar and from a corner their centre half managed to slice wide from a central position 10 yards out. The second half Iron looked to retake the initiative with Akinola always a threat, but it was FGR who were to take the lead from a corner. The first header was won and knocked in at close range. Devs made two changes with Marks and Sparkes coming on for Cox and Mulley; shortly followed by Strutton for Paine. Braintree pressed for the equaliser and came after the ball was cleared as far as Davis 18 yards out, who's left foot drive was deflected off Marks. FGr then immediately went on the offensive and the dangerous Frear provided another telling cross for Parkin to head in well from a difficult angle. Press as they tried in the final moments, the Iron couldn't create another chance.

Had that been a tennis match we would have won in straight sets because we didn,t hit the net when well on top of IMO a very average Forest Green considering they are fuĺl time with possibly the biggest budget in the league. Unfortunately it was a football match and yet again we created so many chances but once again failed to put them away. That has been our problem throughout the season.
I always get nervous when we play so well but don,t score when well on top. Had just one of those early chances gone in I think we would have won comfortably.
Can,t fault the team they gave their all and we will probably not play as well as we did today and win.

I have to say this was a very good game, if I'm honest there was nothing to choose between the two sides, I thought we were brilliant for the first 20 mins and really should of scored 1 or 2 but they did come stronger in the game but still don't think FGR deserved to take the lead let alone win the game, but I think if we play like this in all our games remaining we will finish strong. The pitch was a bit choppy in places a lot of players losing there feet and it could is a goal I'm sure in the first half when Jordan slide in to put it in the empty net, but really can't fault the performance they were brilliant for the whole 90 mins 100% effort and commitment just couldn't get a win or even a draw the iron throughly deserved. Dan sparkes needs to play from the start always look more of a threat with him on. On to the next game on Tuesday for 3pts cmon the iron!!

The above reports concur with what I heard from BBC Essex from the comfort of bed. We should be mindful that professional teams are coached to exploit vulnerable passages of play and it seems FGR are, as in when they hit back seconds after we scored the equaliser.
The game was described as end to end - basketball style with midfield being bypassed.

dbbn~ gives an excellent report of the match. My observation is; 'What goes around comes around' ie like what we did at Chester FGR went and done to us! The FGR fans were a bit upset that one of their players hadn't made the journey and this seemed to cause a bit of friction with a member of their coaching team, strong words were exchanged!

Beautifully put, Pointless really to add to this my only comment would be that on tues I personally would start Sparkes in place of Mulley. Would just like to point out that we do seem to struggle with a big man upfront for the opposition. FGR - Parkin Barnet - Akinde Chester ( Home ) Iwelomo Grimsby - John Lewis Eastleigh - Constable I thought we did well to contain but they always seem to get the better of us somehow. If we dont convert our chances we aint gonna win ! Same old story really . Roll on Tues . COYI

Jordan's miss in the first half was shocking. I'm sure he'll blame the pitch but chances like that have to go in. We more than matched FGR and deserved at least a point. Good effort lads.

Re Ironmansimon.
Those big men up front aren't there for nothing. Chanting "who ate all the pies" at them only seems to spur them on perhaps they thrive on pies! There are just two players like this I can think off in the premier league perhaps the Vanarama Conference is a natural home for this type of player.
