So it's on to the next round of this trophy and one that's eminently winnable in my opinion. That said Gosport, finalists themselves last season will severely test us. We're not renowned for our cup prowess, we can start rectifying this today. For those of us not going, there's the match commentary by courtesy of BBC Essex at this link: www.bbc.co.uk/englandcms/livestreams/int12.asx

I will be joining Mark Babbage for the commentary today at Privett Park. Hopefully we can carry on from where we left off at Chester. We can change things for the cup run like we did coming from behind to win a game. Good luck to all going and playing.

Listening in, not much commentary, no idea where the ball is most of the time! Babbage keeps calling Chez "Isaacs"

Well done to the team today, sounded like we had many many chances. I am impressed with another clean sheet and think our defence is really something to be proud of. Alan and Rem seem to have formed a good partnership, picked up by the commentary today. Another bit of cash to keep club in the right way financially, be nice to have a home draw next maybe Hemel ? Roll on next Sat cant wait for ill disciplined FGR to be on the end of an Iron spanking! COYI

From today's trophy games; there are not many Conference sides left. We know we can beat the top Conference sides and perhaps 8 points is too much to make up to reach the play-offs. Let's go and beat Grimsby in the final.

Good commentary by Mark and Gordon. So we've negotiated a tricky away ties and march on. Again we seemed to spurn a number of good goal scoring opportunites but the end result was mostly all that mattered. Two red cards, two penalties and yet going by the commentary it didn't actually seem a spiteful encounter. Perhaps someone who went can fill us in with the match details.

Into the last 16 with that win, Wembley don't seem that far off now. Big performance yesterday and it could of been more then 2-0, nice to see Davis and Cox finding there form and Paine has been absolute instrumental since his return. The pieces are coming together for a big final push, cmon you iron

Was disappointed with Gosport as they are going well in the Conference South, but right from the kick off it was the IRON calling all the shots. We should have been ahead even before Kenny missed penalty number 1 (it was an awful penalty) and their keeper got a hand to number 2 but it was hit hard and he couldn't keep it out.
Early in the 2nd half their keeper makes an dreadful error giving the ball to Jordan who obliged by netting our 2nd and its game over from then on.
Behind our goal 2nd half were a few young Gosport fans giving it large (Conference Prem you're having a laugh etc) so I asked them the score and they replied 2 nil to Braintree. I then asked what should be the score and they said 5 nil to Braintree, and this was before they went down to 9 men. How we didn't get 5 or more was once again down to not taking just some of the chances we created, but before the match all of us on the coach would have settled for a 2-0 win.
I know Gosport had 2 men sent off but it wasn't a dirty game played on a decent pitch.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnilLzFDTRgWell done to Gosport for getting the highlights up so quick...... Wonder why it takes us sooooooo long to do if a club from lower league can do it??

I know we have three cameras plus commentary to pull together and ours usually last a lot longer.
Some clubs have no highlights of course ...

Thanks for the feedback dbbn, it is useful to get critique, good or bad, or how else could we improve. The other point is we don't know how many are listening in so if nothing else thanks for listening. I hope summarizing was informative, as to where the ball is, not always possible to cover every blade of grass and when commentary digresses its usually because it would be inane or boring for the listener if there is no action of note. Something that is easily seen on the screen but difficult to discern over the airways. On saturday the ball spent a lot of time in the air, with long punts from either end and constantly referring to headers can be repetitive, radio commentary is more about trying to get the flavour of the game along with action in an equal balance. Note to whom it concerns.............must do better!!!

Although you did sound like your voice was struggling a little on Saturday. Maybe it was all the off air groans for all of our missed opportunities of late playing havoc on the vocal chords !!

I'm always amused by the anticipation of half time refreshments by Mark Babbage. He's obviously a man after my own heart with a passion for food. This is basically what he said (in my own words) leading up to halftime............ Sometimes the media attending matches are treated to all manner of food, from a cup of tea and a biscuit to cakes, pastries & pies, but occasionally it's nothing and we have to buy our own, by the way Gordon, I don't have any money on me..... classic!

youd expect that the clubs longest serving player (unless there is someone i cant think of) and an integral part of the clubs most successful every period might be due a little more respect than he seems to get from some on here at times.

If I sounded a bit "off" it was mainly due to this bug going around and coughing down the mic isn't to pleasant for the listener!! Thanks Simon for the generous comments, I came late into this media lark when I took early retirement so I'm still learning my craft and glad that its going the right way. The YouTube/Braintree TV highlights have been an excellent learning curve and again I hope I am getting better the more I do. Commentary at Southport to look forward to again working with Paul Garetty who knows his stuff and is a great mentor for me.
