I don't think we've ever played the seagulls in any kind of match. It seems a long time since we played a league match as well. I hope we're prepared and have all the luck.

Would say that's the best we have played this season... Thoroughly deserved and hopefully the start of our resergence up the league!! Goal difference is a big fat 0- so now is the time to score some goals!! Was really good to see the players play with a smile on their faces!! That result will do wonders for the dressing room spirit and confidence!!!! Marks played his best game for a while and really rattled their defence with his powerful display... If only he had a better touch he could've had 3 or 4 today!!! Bring on the Dartford!!!!!!!!

The commitment show by the whole team including Devs and Keith was amazing. Man of the match is subjective but I thought Marksie and Isaac were outstanding

Mark Babbage and Glenn Pennyfather doing the match commentary were also reporting a good performance by our boys today. I'm one relieved Iron fan this morning.
I just spotted this on the Gulls forum. The one-eyed football fan is alive and well and living in the South West somewhere. I thought there were two teams which make up a game of football. If one team dominates that gives the opponent less opportunity to do what they want to do. Both teams are entitled to win the game, but it seems that if your opponents should take the game by the scruff of the neck - the skies fallen in. Best of all is the contradiction where the poster starts off saying Torquay were outclassed and then says little else apart from we scored two from defensive mix ups..
Here's the post copied and pasted enjoy.
Braintree Town.v.Torquay Postby Jeff ยป Today, 17:11
A truly astonishing performance. Astonishingly bad. In years to come I'll certainly look back on today as one of the low points of supporting Torquay. Totally outclassed.
Even in the disaster of last season, I struggle to recall ever going to a game when we failed to have a single clear cut chance or shot on target. Their keeper barely even touched the ball, let alone warm his gloves.
The game, as a spectacle, was pathetic. Aside from a couple of chances at the death, Braintree didn't actually create much else aside from the goals. Ricey also didn't make a save of note.
Both goals were shocking. First goal, floated cross from the right heading to around the penalty spot; Ricey feels the need to come for it, despite quite a few bodies ahead of him. The thuggish Braintree number 9 gets across the front of Pearce and heads it into the empty net. Ricey stays at home and it's a routine catch.
Second goal, questionable free kick on the right is played into a good area across the 6yd box low down, lots of boots fly in and the Braintree Number 15 gets the most contact: not a lot of contact, the ball is straight at Ricey who can only parry it weakly into the net. To be fair it was right at him from point blank range but as he got hands too it you'd expect him to do better.
Our only chances (not best - ONLY!) were a free kick over the top from Ajala and McDonald heading well wide. And also Richards managed to get a shot off at goal but skewed it into the side netting.
Nobody can really come out of the game with any credit. I suppose McDonald didn't do much obviously wrong, and Ajala gave it a good go in the last 15 but otherwise nothing raised a cheer.
Bowman and O'Achie were awful up front - no movement or link up at all. Bowman barely had a kick and Duane was hopeless, barely managing to control the ball. Midfield could barely string two passes together - without Young we are screwed. McQuilkin got injured and neither Cruise or Ives looked comfortable whether they played left or right back.
All in all, it could only have got worse if we'd had someone sent off. Jeff

I thought Torquay were very poor today and made to look so by a committed Iron performance. The Gulls fan describes accurately Marks opener; I've no idea what the keeper was thinking. Akinola again was a constant thorn in the opposition's side; so much so that 2 defenders were booked in the same dribble as he constantly tormented them. A well deserved man of the match. Thought Charlie had a quiet game today and was rightly subbed. Peters took a knock late on; hopefully everyone else is fit for for the fixture pile up ahead as we were very short on the bench today. Well done to Marks for getting a header on target; pity he missed two sitters late on; thankfully neither were needed. Nick could've had the afternoon off.

Well well well where do I start. Firstly take a bow Sean Marks as perhaps one of his harshest critics on here I take my hat off, Ok your not the best number 9 in the league but your presence , perseverance and team ethic was something to admire today. I patted you on the back after the game near the tunnel and told you great game and I meant it. If collectively we as a team had shown what we did today in every game we would be play offs for sure. Great touch for his goal and really really pleased for him and that performance today justified his selection. Keep it up! Torquay - By far one of the poorest teams seen at the Miles smith stadium for a while, offered little in any department and surprised they finished with a full quota of players! Tactically we was spot on and so so impressed with Chez and Painey today, work rate was incredible. Team ratings (IMO) Nik 6 - Will not have to wash his kit for Dartford ! Ryan 8 - Unstoppable play at times today great link play with the crab ! Sam 7 Solid as ever and played his part Remy 8.5 Seem to relish in this game today and won every challenge Al 8 Mr Rock was MASSive today Chez 9.5 MOTM Did not give the gulls a moments peace best game by far Matt 9 As above, broke up all threats and never shirked a tackle Sim 9 Cause them problems all afternoon and another goal to boost confidence James 8 Should of buried his early chance and that is my only criticism Charlie 7 Glimpses of the genius is only a match a away! Sean 9 Best game of the season still flapped and moaned but obviously rattled the defence and great taken goal, keep em coming!
Subs
Dan s 7 Played his part well Mitch 6 Looked to of enjoyed his leg stretched Steve 6 For every second he was on the pitch
Bring on Dartford
Merry Christmas to one and all, Stay safe. COYI

"Dismal day in Essex" their official website reads & they were pretty dismal but that was largely down to a terrific Iron team performance - best so far this season & pretty close to last season's level. Best game Marksie has played for ages - we could even forgive his glaring miss at the death! Agree with other posters that Chez & Painey were superb - can Kenny get back in now?
