I'm a little bit nervous about this one with all the FA cup talk surrounding the club. The Mariners are on form and they will come to Essex without any doubts as to what their priority is. So I'm hoping that our boys will have one and only one thing in mind at kick off time and that's winning all three points.
6 or 7 mins into the second half and goalless thus far. It appears we're defending somewhat better than we're attacking. As long as it stays nought at our end we're in with a great chance.
Mariners hit the front on 65mins. This is ominous we don't normally come back.
Sparkes & Isaacs off for Cox and Strutton.

Have to say tricky one to call tonight, understand Devs is making some changes tonight depending on fitness levels etc. Perhaps Devs will be taking advice from the guy who gave him substitute advice on Saturday? I feel for him at the moment as to introduce someone from the bench who is not fit as a game changer is an impossible task. I feel this season is a waiting patiently game, Perhaps a win tonight and Sunday will spur the team on , please please please I would love to see us score tonight, I will be cheering the team on and off the field as usual. Listening to the commentary Grimsby were below par and we didn't get a shot on target. How much this can be blamed on cup fever, who knows? Both clubs are hosting cup games this weekend.
Was the Ref a speed cop in an earlier life?

Another evening of aimless hoof-ball. The first half was comparable to Saturday, with one decent chance falling to John Lewis, but he failed to get a good purchase. One bad mistake by Paine and a ling distance daisy cutter was pushed out by Nick straight to an on rushing Grimsby striker. Marks was totally anonymous; neither full back made it into the opposition half and Massey smashed everything long. I would have thought league points were just as important, if not more so, than a bit of cup glory and that starting XI were never going to win tonight.

Hmmm where shall we start on this one..... Clueless, very disappointing. Harsh but having watched the full 94 mins and almost analylising constantly with friends its what we came to the conclusion of. Where was the Braintree passing game saw none of it , dbbn is right Hoof it up to the yet again ineffective Marks and let it come straight back. I understand Akinola and Peters rested due to yellow card count but to play 4-5-1 with the prolific Marks leading the line we was asking for trouble from the off. Time to start looking over our shoulders and for each and every player to step up and play for their place. The fish mongers were again an ok team nothing special and our defence held firm for most of the game , seen many teams similar this season. Fair play to the number of loyal fans that made the trip down on a tues. But I feel we will be seeing them again next year. Ref set his stall out early with his dishing out of more yellow cards than Seans touches !! Overall must do better, I hope we step up the game for Sunday and dont embarrass ourselves. Injuries or not put out your best strarting 11 and try to win the game. If anyone would like to come on and defend the 90 mins of Sean Marks please bring it on cause my friends you must either be related or watching a different player to me . I just dont get it!!! Team ratings Nik 5 - Could not really see if he could of held ball for goal rather than parry Mitch 7 Slotted in at right back ok, questionable distribution at times Omar 8.5 MOTM If only he was permanent and our one chance on goal was only just wide Alan 7 - Glad to see him captain and did little wrong Sam 6 Quite and ineffective attacking needs to use ball better Matt 5 A shadow of last season and his mistake ultimately lead to their goal James 5 Needs to stop running like a crab ! Sparkes 4 - Anonymous for most of game Chez 4 Cant remember a positive contribution in attack couple of silly fouls in dangerous areas Dan 6 Looked Peed off and only till the 2nd half did we see him attack Aswad ( Don't turn around ) Sean 2 Who what where ? Did better defensively than in attack . Case closed for our number 9 !
Subs Kenny 5 Looked rusty and not just up top ! Charlie 6 Played out wide on the left ? did not get it ? Jordan 6 Surprise he won his headers !! Awful mis-kick sums up at mo though
Tactically I have to question the initial line up/ set up, I always stick by Devs but on tonight's occasion I have to question what we were doing. Tues week now becomes a very important 6 pointer lets get it going. COYI

A very disappointing performance by the Iron. We never got a shot off in the first half and in the second only put Grimsby under pressure for brief moments and two half chances. The mariners deservedly scored after a sustained period of pressure. I totally agree with Simon about Sean Marks and I would have liked to have seen Charlie come on for the whole of the second half. We were to abject to rectify the situation by the time the subs came on.
