This game has to be one of the seasons highlights. The gas are likely to bring a boisterous crowd along with them to add to the atmosphere of the occasion. I hope they have a great day out and enjoy some good old Braintree hospitality.
Otherwise give 'em hell on the field of play Iron.

Excellent start to a hard run of matches, I thought akinola first half struggled a little with the physicality of the league but what an amazing second half he had?! Looks a great signing and a thoroughly deserved man of the match. Solid performance overall and a well deserved win. Always lovely to silence a massive away following too )))

Without doubt our best performance of the season so far. No MOTM from me as each and everyone of this TEAM of ours played their hearts out.
A special mention however for Simeon Akinola. The way he beat his defender and laid on the cross for Dan Sparkes goal was pure class.
Looks like Devs has unearthed yet another gem!!

According to Bristol Rovers fan forum a fan punched one of our players ( Jordan ) I think. Rightfully so they are as disgusted as I and hopefully this moron is dealt with accordingly. Thanks to the other Bristol fans who made the journey and hope things turn round for them soon. Lot of down beat talk on their forum. Hard for any league team to adjust to conference life.

Evening. Here's my version of events posted on gasheads.org earlier. See below. BTW - that wasn't a penalty in a million years. Our players were incensed. A lot of pushing and shoving afterwards. However absolutely no way any of our supporters should have got involved and those that did were correctly ejected from the ground. Sorry about that. The best team won "Easy trip for me. 40 minutes up the M11 / A120. Really looked forward to it. Orange Tree was rammed so went to the 'locals' pub - called imaginatively 'The Pub' - big banner on the building stating "Thepub team from Essex". Probably easiest for me to give my player ratings than run through the horrendous 90 minutes. Milldenhall: 8. Solid. Not at fault for either goals. And had the b*llocks to applaud the travelling support. Lockyer: 7. Not a right back, but didn't do much wrong today. Parkes: 7. Solid and won his fair share in the air. Wrongly penalised for the 'penalty'. It really wasn't a penalty. Trottman: 7. Solid. And applauded the away support. Brown: 2. Probably the worst I've ever seen him play. Martin: 5. Some good touches. Had our only shot on target in the second half. Wasted possession a lot though. Mansell: 5. Average. Worked hard, but to no effect. Clarke: 1. Really? Did we have no-one to replace him? Very very poor. Monkhouse: 4. He should be better than this. White: 2. No threat. No pace. No idea. Cunnington: 3. No threat. Subs who came on (Why oh why did DC wait for an hour before making changes. Brainless at Braintree). Sinclair: 6. Too late to make a difference. At least he tried. Taylor: 2. See White. Brunt: 3. See Cunnington. The referee really had no idea what he was doing. The penalty decision was a f******g joke - as were most of the decisions in the first half that all went to Braintree. Second half we didn't turn up and we were lucky not to concede 4 or 5. No threat at all (apart from Martin's shot). To conclude. We missed Harrison as a pacy threat up front. We were s*** and the best team won. A pub team from Essex. Read more: gasheads.org/thread/1238/view-braintree-gas#ixzz3CZTr4NSZ

A great result for the Iron and for the first time this season I feel we really imposed ourselves. It looks like Dev's is getting near the complete team he has been talking about with his inspired signings. Remy and Mitch both worked hard and I was very impressed when Mitch Brundell went chasing towards an attacker when he could have laid off. From the Clubhouse end it looked a clear penalty when Jordan was barged off the ball! It's not good to see all the afters that went with that but then perhaps that's a sign of a desperate team and frustrated followers. As the game went on the Iron got more confident just after the start of the second half Akinola skimmed a headed ball past the right hand goal post this seemed to spur him on with runs down the left wing and he was mightily pleased with himself running at and beating the defender to put the ball into Dan Sparkes path to put the ball beyond the goalie. Plenty of green shoots on show today lets hope they flower into something really special.

Up on the gantry at half time we reviewed the footage taken by the Bristol Rovers cameraman so its an independent view. The penalty was a clear one. Cox was pulled and there is no dispute, every fan disputes penalties unless it is completely clear cut and League Two fans hoping that their Conference League side should arrogantly expect to win because of the Clubs history will soon find that out. Most of the Pirates team are low key league players or conference ones, Braintree played far better than they did and though it may be a different story with the return fixture there is also the chance that the Iron will enjoy the big occasion as like at Luton last season. Arrogance is ok when you have a proven record, Bristol Rovers are finding that in this league it doesn't count. The better more experienced side won yesterday, winning with confidence and determination not arrogance as we have found to our cost that nothing is a given in this league and I think that our visitors learned that lesson yesterday and the quicker their fans do the same the quicker they will start to enjoy life below the Football League. From what I've seen of them so far, on TV and live, they shouldn't get their hopes up of a quick return. Well done to Alan and his team another great effort.

The BBC Bristol duo doing the match commentary were amongst the best I've heard. Very enjoyable and prepared to praise the opposing team.

Have to agree with you there Phil, I spoke with them before the game and joked about coverage by some of their colleagues from other Counties, and when I listened in post match they were very magnanimous, as all the commentators from all radio stations should be, that should include summarizers as well. Not always the case but good yesterday, lets say one of the better ones. I certainly enjoyed my commentary on Iron TV and look forward to the highlights.

Gordon - I haven't seen any copies of last season's highlights DVD yet? Any idea when it is out? Also, did the Bristol Rovers camera team get clear footage of the supporters attacking Jordon Cox, with a view to bringing them to justice? Rovers forums indicate one of them was ejected but I didn't personally see that.

Typical of a fan to blame the referee for a teams inadequacies. Yes there was a lot of free kicks to Braintree, but that was because the Rovers players didn't know how to tackle and were constantly late in their challenges. If anything the ref was lenient in not booking the persistent offenders.

Our players, fans and the manager (see BBC for his views) were incensed by that 'penalty' decision. That was preceded by 3 or 4 decisions that all penalised our defence where there were 50/50 balls in the air. I have read a lot about officials being worse than in the non-professional leagues. I hadn't prepared myself for yesterday though. 94 years in the football league and I guess we are used to how competent officials interpret the rules. If that was a penalty then John Terry at Chelsea will be giving away 4 or 5 every game. Like I said earlier - over 90 minutes I thought Braintree deserved to win. However the turning point was the penalty decision. We had the best of the first half hour despite the utterly bizarre refereeing.

How your team only did not get many more yellow cards, I will never know. Several of your players deserved to be booked with the way they acted after the penalty was given and so many times they were late to challenges with no intent on getting the ball. You got away with an awful lot yesterday!
