A good afternoon to all Braintree Town FC fans - a Gashead here in peace. Really looking forward to Saturday. A short trip for me (Epping) and the missus is even prepared to drive me to the ground. Is the Orange Tree the only decent pub? Can we get a beer at the ground? Any decent ciders - or do we have to suffer that awful Aspalls stuff? I saw that the football club bar is shut for away fans when segregation is place - and I thought this would probably be the case as we should be bringing at least 400-500. We travel in good numbers and are generally well-behaved (unlike the red scum from south of the river). Would be good to experience a game without segregation and the 'fans change ends at half time' bit. The only trouble I've heard of this year has been where our own fans hurled abuse at the players and staff after a particularly gutless 1-2 reverse at Altrincham! Any other tips on how to enjoy the delights of Braintree much appreciated. Up The Gas.

Hi eppinggas. The Orange Tree is indeed the nearest pub about 300yds from the ground. There are however plenty of pubs to choose from in the town centre about 10-15mins walk to the ground. The game is bound to be segregated so would suggest getting there early as we have limited parking and turnstiles for away supporters. Full details will be put on our website shortly. Glad your supporters are well behaved as are most in this league.
Sorry to have taken a while to respond but we have been pre-occupied with the rumours about the possibility of our manager going to Colchester. Happily for us they have appointed someone else.

Hi eppinggasinpeace, Send the missus over to Freeport shops while the game on, only a stones throw away, then after the match treat her to a meal at one of the popular eateries there too, even catch a film ! Never know you may want cheering up after the game ! Seriously though looking forward to Saturday remember we are just ' a Pub team from Essex ' . Enjoy the game.

Thanks for the feedback... the Gas are a thirsty lot so I'll advise on our Forum that we don't all descend on the Orange Tree at the same time. Shame about the segregation - but I think that is the sensible option. Our supporters tend to regulate themselves - obviously I'm biased - but the feeling I get is that we are generally missed in the football league as we tend to boost gates and add a bit of atmosphere on our travels. Hopefully we will be in good voice and you'll hear "Goodnight Irene" belted out. We are used to slow turnstiles. I remember taking about 1100 to Barnet and slowly filing through the one turnstile available... Good news that you have kept your manager. Colchester's ground is a soul-less lego build by the A12 that you can't park anywhere near. If he was offered the job and turned it down - he made the right decision.

Already have it covered! The missus is indeed going to Freeport with my daughters while me and my son go the game. Not sure about the eaterie bit afterwards, depends how much celebrating/cheering up I will be needing. As for the 'Pub team in Essex' - we are still learning to treat teams with the respect they deserve. One of the dangers we have is players mentality - that we are the 'big club' - and we can just turn up and collect 3 points. After being hammered at Barnet and humiliated by Altrincham - I would hope we are beginning to learn that lesson. Looking forward to a good day out, a couple of beers (ciders), a bit of banter, and a decent game of football. May the best team win...

Wetherspoons in the town centre about 20mins from the ground is a great place to sink a few. It's the old embassy cinema and they saved the old main screen which is used for live football.
It'll be great to see a few in the away end and think you will have a decent day out as most places are within walking distance in this compact town.

I'm pleased you have the grace to recognise that. Many of the 'big' teams supporters don't and have learnt not to underestimate the Iron. We took pleasure in beating the likes of Luton a few times and it took them longer than expected to regain league status. Who knows perhaps we'll play them again next season.

Some derogatory comments about our ground & facilities on the Bristol forum. Is this another case of a BELT (big ex league team) underestimating the IRON? They may have a better ground than us, but have they got a better team?
Can't wait for Saturday.

Sorry to hear that you're hearing that sort of comment. I would imagine it's more banter / gallows humour about the new surroundings we find ourselves in. Don't take it to heart. The best ground Rovers have had in the last 30 years was when we were homeless and tenants of Bath City FC. That was just a big shed with appalling facilities. But an atmosphere 10 times better than the Memorial Stadium. Like you say - it's 11 vs 11 on Saturday and may the best team win. The real fans who turn up on Saturday (as opposed to those brave internet warriors) won't be arrogant. The Gas have suffered over the last 15 years or so and one of the main things that has kept us together (and unbelievably well-supported given the quality of our football we have had to endure) is our sense of humour. And that is mostly self-deprecating.

Just checked - I only look at www.gasheads.org and I don't think there is anything in there that is derogatory. This is where most people post after our illustrious Board shut down the Official Forum just after we were relegated. Ostensibly this was because BRFC thought they may be at risk of getting sued due to libelous comment - but everyone knows it was because of the amount of direct abuse the Board was getting...

Hi eppinggas. No disrespect to you, but if you check the Bristol2 forum which can be found on the non-league football forum you will see the comments I refer to?

Hi - all I can say is... the kids are back to school this week and I trust the amount of drivel that gets posted on to various forums may drop...

Just been reading your posts guy and would like to comment about my club. It's only a mile from the ground and 2 mins walk into town. It's large and very nice club. We have 12 pool tables and a fantastic bar with loads of free parking. I would gladly welcome away fans. If any of you guys want to check me out it's Legends bar CM7 3GB. Hopefully might see some of you Saturday

Hi eppinggas. See on one of your forums that your supporters coaches are now full. Any idea how many coaches are coming?

I think I read somewhere that the second coach was now full... if true this is usually a pretty good indication that we are taking a decent number away. I think a lot of people are looking forward to this and it's in the south / London area where we tend to travel in better numbers. Upgrading my estimate to 500-600. UTG (Up The Gas).
