Sack Joe Dunne. Alan Devonshire's great job at Braintree has not gone unnoticed and he is being touted as a possible replacement.

Typical, We (the O's) have them at home on the 13th by which time they will have a new manager who will have a lifting effect on them, making it a really difficult game for us.
Every time I have seen ColU thought they were not a bad side, but very inexperienced in key areas.

We will both be hoping that they will appoint someone who can continue the trend we are used to in the last few seasons. " Let's all laugh at ColUwe, let's all laugh at Col Uwe. Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha."

They can keep their grubby hands off our Dev. As I understand it he is contracted with us.

Hopefully devs will stay at where he must feel comfortable and extremely at home. But if he's tempted then you can't blame him. Would hate to lose him

You can see why Devs would be touted for this position, he is used to operating on a tight budget, is a great pro and knows his players. Would be a shame to lose him considering the remarkable achievements he has done for us. I think for him it would be the next logical step, he has spoken before of managing a league club but whoever goes to Col U has a real job on their hands to keep them in league 1. Devs is always up for a fight and can make the underdogs into contenders. Lets watch this space. Hope this not distract from Saturdays big game.

Great news that Devs stays with us. His priority is IMO to get us into the Football League, and then West Ham beckons!!

I reckon that Devs enjoys managing Braintree, he clearly loves his footy and must be 60ish. I'm not sure that everyone relishes a job as unsecure as the one at Colchester proves to be. I doubt that Devs is looking to move anywhere, but obviously can't be 100% certain about that.

If Dev got an offer from a league club he would be mad not to take it and he would deserve it for the great work he has done in challenging circumstances at various non league clubs. Reading Iron Webbo in the Gazette the club wouldn't stand in his way if it was right for everybody. Braintree are very lucky to have Dev and Colchester have made on the face of it a very soft appointment.

its succession planning. Humes has been head of the academy for 5 years and was being groomed for the job by the chairman for such a time that dunne moved on (in this case he walked away as he always claimed he would if he felt his presence had become other than positive). he has an outstanding reputation for youth coaching from his time as head of youth at ipswich, and as part of the clubs long term plan to become sustainable he is the obvious choice. as someone with experience of working (successfully) with the clubs young players and within the clubs philosophy it makes sense. whoever took on the job, its a tough one with very little money available, so it might as well be the guy that has a head start in knowing the players and how the club want to play now and in the future.

i dont think Dev was ever really in the running to be honest, more that a successful manager of a local club would always be thought to be in the running when drawing up a list.

As long as he continues the form of the last few seasons. . Be good if both Col Uwe and Wetsham can go down this season.
