Talk about a game of 2 halves. If we had taken just a couple of the chances we created in the first half we would have been out of sight and Chester would be going home with their tails between their legs. Lets hope Charlie is fit soon as we desperately need someone up front to put the chances away. Marksy works hard but again was ineffective and missed several good chances.
As it was we were bl**dy awful 2nd half our defence/midfield/attack played as if this was the first time they had played together and there was a complete lack of understanding amongst the whole team.
Lets just hope this a bad day at the office, otherwise based on todays 2nd half performance we are in for a really tough season.

Played well in the first half with some patient passing and really should have been at least 3-0.up. Second half was awful the patient build up was replaced by numerous long hopeful balls towards Marks and Cox other than Sparkes dead balls the delivery into the box was dreadful..
There was no need to go route one after Chester equalised Braintree caused Chester more than enough problems first half by passing it on the deck it was woeful to be honest
I hate to single anybody out specially as he has been one of my favourite BTFC players over the last few seasons but Marks has gone steadily down hill over the last 12 months.

If ever there was a proverbial game of 2 halves today was it. First half we was quick out of the blocks confident and strong and had 6 chances in first 10 mins. Their keeper made couple of decent saves. If we had a finisher we would have been 4- 0 at half time. Chester came out buzzing in the 2nd half and we looked lethargic and again toothless. I don't get it. Lets be honest Chester are lucky to be in this league and played for each other and the manager in the second half. Stig of the dump ran the show for them in midfield and the two wingers were threatening and fit. Upfront big Chris put himself about and when he won headers they fell to his team mates unlike us ! If we had not got the Pen we would never have scored today, I just cant see how tues and todays performance compare. Listening to BBC Essex on way home its clear to hear the commentator had the same view as me and my fellow match attendees, Sorry but Marks is not good enough and it pains me a little but Jordan needs to drop a league and gain some experience. Give Walker and Bakare a chance but enough is enough. Unless Sean is Devs secrect love child what else is he offering the team at present ? ( Please anyone wants to argue this one i have plenty ). To be fair to Devs he never singled out anyone's poor display but deep down he knows changes are afoot he even said if someone has to go to make room for a potential target so be it. Well done to Chester to show how finishing should be done and hopefully a lot of soul searching from the players this week before we have our traditional 2 nil away defeat to Lincoln! Team Ratings today Nik 6- Little else to do except pick ball out net 3 times. Ryan 7 - Played ok but not going to stand a chance heading against Iwelomo Sam 7 - Played like his hairdo, little movement going forward and solid at the back. Alan 8- Shining light this season . Deano who ? Mitch 7 I do like him playing well too. Chez 6 Must of covered every blade of grass with little to show 4 it Kenny 5 Poor from the captain and frustration was heard at the exasperation at the ' strikers ' being offside again ! James 4 - Was Luke Daley really that bad ? Sparky 4 - Where was the lad that played on tues? Dan w 7 Should of buried his chances but did ok. Frustrated at being subbed again before 'the Marksman ' Sean 3 Sorry but just not good enough, Missed chances , slow and headers went nowhere, Why the ball is punted upto him so much i never know.
Subs Mike -5 Average and defence shut him out Jordan 4 - Offered little and cant remember a shot towards goal.
All in all very disappointing and just hope we can move on from this. Devs said nothing happening untill after the Nuneaton game so come on boys , buck your ideas up !

Well summed up; even proper use of "have" until you got to comments on Dan W! Chester scored using the flanks and getting men forward in support. Sparkes was in acres of space in the first half; but for some reason was being overlooked; yet he and Habergham are arguably the better crosses of the ball. Second half Sparkes was tucked in more and we were back to aimless punts up field. Overall a disappointing afternoon with our old bogey team Lincoln up next.

In my opinion Bakare looked every bit a Ryman Player at best...... He wanted to take 3 touches of the ball to get it under control every time n every time he lost possession.... Looking at the way Strutton was hobbling about I'd be surprised if we saw anything of him before Christmas!!!! Whilst things aren't going well for Marks in front of goal at the moment we have to remember that before he came to us he was playing for Maldon Town in a much lower league....... He has done well to keep his place in the squad n is a player that thrives on confidence- which he is lacking currently!!! Jordan could do with a season banging in the goals in a lower league...... It's a sign of how far we have come that we are all very disappointed about losing to Chester City who only a few years ago were plying there trade in the football league!!!!

Thought the season started with a 0-1 loss? No it 'began' with a loss The first three fixtures looked a great opportunity to get our season established. Both Chester and Dover are imo going to be in the struggle of their lives and I wouldn't be surprised if Macclesfield are down there as well. I thought we were good for a minimum of 4 points and possibly all 9. The fact we can't net the goals that our approach work suggests we should, must psychologically spur our opponents on. I suspect this didn't happen with Dover because we scored two good goals early on. You could tell the frustration in Devs post match report.

Wasn't at the game yesterday but how can the back 5 be rated 7's or 8's when we conceded 3 goals?

The defence individually played ok. I think the point people are making is had we scored from the good chances we had in first half hour score would of been 4-0 and consequently Chester would of been dead and buried before half-time. How the non league paper reporter gave Kenny a 8 is a joke and the 6 for sean must of been for how many chances he missed.

I am sure if you have the time to help the club with writing a report and emailing it over, the club will probably snap your hand off. Just a thought. I am only guessing but I would assume City and Stortford have many volunteers submitting articles for the club website rather than leaving it to one or two individuals who have to do everything. Approach the club and ask if they need any help.

The match report and league table were updated at 9.30am this morning and we've just updated the link to the latest game on Iron TV.
Great news from Simon - looking forward to him taking over and improving our site.

I appreciate we only have had three games but both Jordan Cox and Michael Bakare need more than 10-15 minutes game time per game. It is getting silly now that Marks is still our "number one striker" when the club needs someone finishing off chances, not someone who hasn't scored consistently, is slow and spends too much time moaning. As stated before on another post, I hope he proves me wrong and that he bangs in the goals left, right and center but for me, I would like to see Dan Walker and Michael Bakare as our starting strikers for now with Jordan Cox rotating between them both should one of them need a rest and Marksey dropped for a few games. When Strutton gets fit, I would like to see a Struttz/Walker striking combination. However, if Devs has faith in him, then so be it. I'll back him but many will agree, he is becoming frustrating to watch!

Can't agree with all this Marks baiting. He hit the post in the first half and then had a header that must have shaved the outside of the other post. So about six inches one way and then the other and he would have scored twice. Seems a bit harsh to judge him on six inches. (I agree he should stop moaning, though). Dan Walker on the other hand was clean through twice, took too long the first time and allowed the defence to recover, then miscued his shot the second time. He does a lot of running around but there's been no end product so far. I'd go for Marks on his own up front on Saturday, bring back Clerima, assuming he's not working, and put Mitch in midfield where I thought he looked pretty good in pre-season

got to agree with on the terrace marks just needs his luck to change, and also if im not mistaken missed a couple of pre season games so might be a tad off with his fitness. also if we are going to persevere with the long ball it would be nice if we could deliver em a touch flatter just to give the strikers half a chance, and must agree with earlier post if strikers get scrutinised 4 not scoring then so should the defence 4 conceding 3 at home is not on. lastly its funny how people mark these players and give there views because I think Kenny getting 8 in the nlp was about right thought he played quite well.sparks also7 not 4.but im sure the boys are hurting and want to put things right.

So who do I email my match report to I will only be to glad to help.? I thought you said that the league table on the website had been updated? Still has last seasons final table on. Just saying ... like i was just saying about the website. Would it be a idea that the money raised from the 50/50 draw is put towards an IT specialist who could modernise our website and bring us up to date ? instead of knocking a fiver of the peoples away travel? Maybe the supporters club members could discuss this . If the website had more info on would it attract a few more fans and awareness of the club. I thought last season before any game there was info bout orange tree , parking and turnstiles etc has something changed? I thought the whole ideas of forums was for people to air their views, i must of missed the point and if i give my team ratings for the matches that I see is that not just my opinion. Anyway looking forward to Saturday and sean to get a hat trick what odds Notley kev ?

We will never score!!!! We could have played another 90 minutes against Chester and we still wouldn't have scored. Of course Sean can't take all the blame, but he is supposed to be our No1 striker (6 goals last season). Walker may not have finished his chances (hold on a minute neither did Super Sean) but at least we get movement with Walker, he always puts in a shift and doesn't waste 15 minutes per game moaning his arse off! SURELY it would be a better use of Sean's time trying to win back the ball he didn't seem to get near - again!!!! I love Braintree and we always bat way above our league and that's what makes Braintree a fantastic club to support, but we have to be realistic now and Sean needs to be warming the bench more than he is. Let's mix it up a little up front and not rely so heavily on a striker who scored only 6 goals last season.
