Being someone originally from that area. The shortest route to Hullbridge from the capital of Mid/North Essex would be to take the A12 southbound then pick up the A130 towards Southend. At Rettendon turnpike follow the signs that will take you through Battlesbridge. Once over the River Crouch Bridge you take the first left (Beeches Rd) which takes a couple of name changes to Watery Lane and then eventually Lower Road, Hullbridge. (3 or so miles from Battlesbridge).

About a 40 minute drive all up.

Bandit country. Take a coat, scarf and gloves. Hip flask optional if not driving.

If you're struggling to find it, stop when you see the sea and turn around, as you've gone too far.

Oh yes! I forgot to mention a couple of decent pubs. There's "The Barge" just before the bridge at Battlesbridge and a rather nice pub at Hullbridge Riverside - I think its "The Anchor" You can't miss it, if you do, you'll need towing out of the mudbank.
